The two maps illustrate the changes in the waterfront area of Darwin between 2009 and 2014.
Overall, the area underwent significant transformation, shifting from an industrial-focused region to a more residential and recreational zone, with the introduction of new buildings and green spaces.
In 2009, the southern part of the area was occupied by an industrial zone, which was completely removed by 2014. In its place, multiple residential buildings were constructed, and a university was built in the southwest corner. A new footpath was added, connecting these residential zones through a green forested area, and leading directly to a newly built harbour in the southeast part of the sea.
In the northern section, most features remained unchanged. The school in the northwest and the convention center in the north stayed in their original positions. The area surrounding the lake, previously part of the industrial area, was developed with a footpath and a small swimming pool. Additionally, the two large swimming pools and the fishing area in the northeast remained untouched.
