The diagram depicts the transformation of a seaside city between 1985 and 2005.
Overall, the city’s layout underwent significant alterations to become more modernized and industrialized. While some facilities remained unchanged, the majority of green areas were demolished, making way for new residential, recreational, and industrial establishments.
In 1985, there was a lake in the southeast, with a nearby area dedicated to camping. In the following years, however, although the lake was preserved, the camping zone was transformed to accommodate a new hotel. Similarly, the hospital in the southwest had the nearby trees demolished alongside the residential area, being relocated eastward and being renovated in the process. Furthermore, the school in the bottom-left remained, in essence, untouched.
Moving across to the top side, while the houses to the northeast of the center were repositioned northward to stand alongside the other residential areas, new apartments were established opposite the houses. Meanwhile, the car park in the top-left center remained while two adjacent factories were introduced in the middle-west, where a park once stood at. Finally, the bus station in the top-left corner was moved to the bottom one, making way for a new airport.
