The illustrations show the changes made to the Lynnfield town between 1936 and 2007.
Overall, the whole area experienced significant modifications, while most of the main features such as the threes, bank, and library remained almost unchanged. The most noticeable differences were the development of cycle path, and the southern, central, and eastern parts of the town.
The north-eastern section of the Lynnfield town has undergone a sharp transformation. In 1936, this area consist of only a river, which no longer exists in 2007, because it was converted to a residential area. Moreover, the middle was considerably altered. While in 1936 there were six shops (post office, library, sweet shop, butcher’s, flower shop and bank) in 2007 sweet shop and butchers were joined and replaced by supermarket, flower shop was replaced by travel agency. Additionally, a huge shopping centre was established.
By 2007, the government offices and the farm land had been converted into a museum and a golf course respectively. In contrast, the western side of the map has remained almost unaltered. Although the cycle path has been upgrated into a road, the direction has become more even. The green area remained stable, in 1936 consisted of only three trees, while in 2007 only one three left.
