The pictures illustrate the developments occurring in Youngsville, New Zealand from 1980 to 2005.
Overall, there was a significant decrease in green spaces in Youngsville over 25 years. Additionally, this period witnessed the appearance of industrial buildings.
In 1980, to the North of the River Alanah, there were many trees surrounding a lake. However, most of them had been cut down to make way for a parking lot and tennis court by 2005. Similarly, the houses situated to the Northeast of the river in 1980 were replaced by a stadium and another parking lot, while the hospital to the Northwest of the river remained unchanged.
The area to the South of the River Alanah in 1980 consisted of trees, residential houses, and a school. However, by 2005, all the trees and houses along the railway had been removed and replaced with skyscrapers. The trees were chopped down to make space for new warehouses and factories, while the railway to the East of the river was extended, running from the North to the South of Youngsville. In contrast, the school near the river, the airport, and the parking lot in the Northwest of the river remained unchanged.
