The chart illustrates the transformation of Pentland, a coastal area in 1950 and 2007.

Overall, being a remote coastal town in the 1950s, Pentland had redeveloped as a tourist attraction 57 years later.

Back in 1950, the town looked quite simple generally. The boundary in the north faced the sea, whereas the left corner located an industrial area. Opposite to it was a single car park, which connected with a basic road network. The remainder of the town consisted of a huge grassland occupying both the southeast and southwest sides.

Conversely, in the 2000s, the town was converted into a tourist destination, with various shifts and additions to its facilities and layout. They extended the north boundary to cover the entire seaside area, and a marina was also added. Besides, on its left, they installed a small park, and more apartments were built in parallel, which is alternate for the car park. Moreover, a replacement was made between the previous industrial area and the swimming pool and multi-storey car park. Another major change was the transportation system, which was broadened. Especially, they made use of the whole grassland to develop many entertainment services such as shops on both corners, a cinema, and house on the bottom right.
