The maps illustrate changes in part of Shalton village between 1910 and 2010.
Overall, the village experienced significant development over the century. Most open and commercial spaces in 1910 were replaced by residential buildings and modern facilities by 2010, while the main road structure remained largely unchanged.
In 1910, the village centre was dominated by a large house surrounded by trees, located within a triangular road system formed by School Road, London Road, and High Street. Several small businesses, including a grocer and a baker, were situated along High Street. A school was located on the western side of the village, while a post office and a bank were positioned near the northern roads. Housing was limited and mostly concentrated along High Street.
By 2010, the large house and green area had been removed and replaced with multiple residential buildings. A café appeared on High Street, replacing earlier shops, and the grocer and baker were no longer present. The school remained in the same location, but a department store and parking area were added nearby. In addition, more houses were constructed along London Road and High Street, indicating a shift toward a more residential village layout.
