The provided map illustrates how the center of Nelson City has undergone significant transformations from 2000 to now.
Overall, the area has shifted from a relatively simple urban space to a much more modern and multifunctional region. The key changes include the addition of housing, the modernization of facilities, and the construction of recreational-oriented buildings.
Regarding the northern part of the city, specifically above the city center, in 2000, there was just a train station in the southwest, a university in the middle, and a cluster of trees in the east. Currently, while the university remains unchanged, a new hall of residence has been erected to the west of it, with a modern shopping center being established right on the north-eastern corner at the expense of the trees. The train station has also been modernized and repositioned to the south of the university and to the west of a newly added crossroad connecting the university with the city center.
The central area, which extends southward from the northern region to the main road that runs from the west to the east, featured an old market complex in the west and the city center in the middle in 2000. Now, new shops have replaced the original place for the old market, while to the east, a covered market has occupied the previously empty land. In the middle, the city center has also been equipped with multiple bike renting spots on each of its corners.
The southern region, which stretches down from the road, used to only contain a port in the middle. In the present, there have been additions of a freshly constructed restaurant and a structure of clubs and bars, which are positioned opposite the new shop and covered market, respectively. Interestingly, the road ís also converted for pedestrian use only.
