Overall, the number of books read by women increased significantly during the period, while the figure for men increased at first and then decreased. By 2014, women had read considerably more books than men.
In 2011, men read about 5,000 books, compared with approximately 3,000 books read by women. In the following year, the number for men rose to around 7,500, whereas the figure for women increased only slightly to about 4,000 books.
A major change occurred between 2012 and 2013. The number of books read by women increased sharply from around 4,000 to 10,000. At the same time, the figure for men also rose, reaching approximately 10,000 books. Therefore, both groups recorded the same number in 2013.
By 2014, women’s reading continued to rise considerably to about 14,000 books. In contrast, the number of books read by men fell to around 8,000.
