The two pie charts illustrate how electricity was produced by fuel sources in France in the years 1990 and 2010.
Overall, there were significant changes over the period, at the beginning, coal contributed the largest share, but then in 2010, the main source became nuclear power. Interestingly, hydro power made up the smallest proportion in 1990 and 2010.
There were 3 primary sources in 1990, which were coal, oil, natural gas, each of them accounted for about 25%. 2010 then witnessed a decline to 13% in both coal and oil while natural gas drastically dropped to only 4%, being the second least used source by 2010.
Turning to 1990, hydro and nuclear power represented 17% and 6%, respectively. A substantial growth of 50% was seen in nuclear power by 2010, being the most used source by 2010. On the other hand, hydro power experienced a slight drop to only 2% after 20 years, making up the smallest share in 1990 and 2010.
