In 1970, the United States had the highest employment rates for both men (86%) and women (78%). Indonesia closely followed with an 84% male employment rate, while Belgium’s female employment rate was 63%. Japan had the lowest rates, with 75% for men and 52% for women.
By 2020, the United States still led with the highest male employment rate at 79%. However, female employment in Belgium fell sharply to 45%, the lowest among the countries. Japan’s employment rates saw a notable increase, reaching 63% for men and 48% for women.
