The pie chart illustrates how water was consumed in Australia in the year 2004, while the bar chart gives information about household water use in the same year.
Overall, it is clear that most of the amount of water in Australia was consumed by residents, both in houses and apartments. In addition, bathroom and garden were the household areas that used the largest amount of water.
Looking first at the pie chart, the percentage of water consumed by residential areas was 70% (50% for house and 20% for apartment), which was disproportionately higher than the remaining consumers. Similar patterns were seen in the figures for industry and business, with respective figures being 11% and 10%. Additionally 6% of water used in Australia was consumed by government, doubling that of other consumers.
Turning next to the second chart, the percentage of water used in the bathroom and garden were similar, at 27% and 28% respectively. It is also notable that the figure for washing clothes doubled that of kitchen (at 20% and 10% respectively), while the proportion of water used in toilet was 15%.
