The graph describes the primary causes of worldwide pollution, while the chart below illustrates from which different areas of the world these causes derived in the 2000s. Overall, one of the most important and dangerous sources are the industrial and vehicle emissions which together include the 74% of the total, while the most polluted area is both North America and Asia.
The sources of pollution across the world must be searched for three main causes: industrial emissions at 40%, vehicle exhaust at 34% and agricultural activities at 17%. The left part is for other reasons in addition to those already mentioned, at 9%. Moreover, the most polluted region is North America which contributes 26% of the total worldwide emission, followed by Asia with 21% and the last one Europe with 11%.
However, each source does not contribute at the same level for every region. For instance, vehicle exhaust contributes 11.3% in North America but only 3.1% in Europe. To take another example, Industrial emissions are higher in Asia rather than other regions.
