The two pie charts compare the reasons why students decided to study at a specific university in the UK in two different years, 1987 and 2007.
Overall, it is clear that “suitable degree courses” was the most popular reason in both years. Additionally, while the importance of “quality of resources” increased, the percentage of students choosing the university because it was “close to parental home” decreased significantly.
In 1987, 35% of students chose the university for its degree courses, and this figure increased slightly to 37% in 2007. The “quality of resources” also saw a big change, rising from 21% in 1987 to 27% twenty years later.
On the other hand, the number of students who wanted to be “close to parental home” dropped from 10% to only 5%. Similarly, “quality of teaching” fell from 15% to 8%. Finally, the percentage for “good sports and social activities” remained relatively stable, starting at 19% and ending at 17% in 2007.
