The pie chart illustrates how the United Arab Emirates allocated its national budget of AED 315 billion in 2000.
Overall, it is clear that social security accounted for the largest share, whereas the opposite was true for transport.
To begin with, the UAE spent AED 100 billion on social security, which was slightly lower than one-third of the total annual expenditure. As for the second largest expenditure, AED 53 billion was allocated to health and personal social services, followed by education at AED 38 billion. Equal attention was distributed to debt interest and other expenditures at AED 23 billion, slightly higher than the cost of its national defense at AED 22 billion. Compared with other sectors, spending on law and order; housing, heritage and environment; industry, agriculture, and employment were comparatively lower at AED 17 billion, 15 billion, and 13 billion. Transport was the least costing sector with an annual expenditure of AED 9 billion.
