The charts illustrate the age distribution of residents in Oman and Spain in 2005, along with predictions for 2055.
In general, over the specified period, the above 60 age group has represented the largest proportion in both countries, with the “0-14 years” category in Oman experiencing a significant decrease, while the “15-59 years” segment in Spain has seen a dramatic increase.
In Oman, both the over 60 years and the under 14 years exhibited a similar percentage, each at 48% in 2005; however, the former is expected to undergo noticeable growth to over half (57%) by 2055, while the latter is projected to decline remarkably to just above two-thirds (37%). Additionally, the remaining age group is anticipated to see rise slightly from 4% to 6%, which is roughly ten times lower than the under 14-year-old section and six times lower than the over 60-year-old section.
Spain displayed a generally reversible pattern compared to Oman, with its forecast for the “60+ years” age group decreasing dramatically from 62% in 2005 to 46% in 2055, while the population aged 15-59 is predicted to nearly double from 24% to 42%, almost equaling the over 60-year-old category. The rest consistently presents the smallest share with a slight decrease between 14% and 12% by 2055.
