The pie charts below display the most popular sports in French secondary schools in three different years between 1990 and 2010. Overall, swimming was the most popular sport in each year. Other sport types were also attended a lot. Basketball and football were not that popular. The only unpopular sport among the others was tennis.

In 1990, swimming played a pivotal role as it was the most popular type of sport with 39% in total. Football and basketball had the same percentage of popularity, 16%. Other sports were of interest to secondary schools more often, with 25%, and the lowest percentage was taken by tennis, at 4%.

From 2000 to 2010, swimming was still popular. In 2000, football sections were well-known with just 18%. Basketball and tennis had the smallest percentage in that year. However, since 2010, basketball sections were attended more often than ever and made up 25% of the total. Football and tennis did not change much and remained the same in popularity among secondary schools.
