The pie charts demonstrate the most preferable sports among children in French secondary schools in 1990, 2000, and 2010.
Overall, it is clear that swimming was the most popular activity throughout the period, whereas tennis was the least favored one among French pupils. It is also noticeable that basketball eventually became more popular than football and other activities.
Initially, swimming was the most frequently attended sport, as it had around 40% visitors in 1990 and 2010, and nearly a half of students preferred this sport in 2000. In contrast, just 4% played tennis in 1990 and 2000, and 7% in 2010.
Basketball and football were both at 16% in 1990. However, even though the number of basketball players halved to 7% in 2000, it then increased severely to 25% in 2010, while football became much less popular at just 8%. The proportion of other activities has slightly decreased over the period from 25% to 19%.
