Overall, it is clear that swimming remained the most popular sport among secondary school students across the time period. Additionally, tennis and basketball both saw a noticeable growth in popularity, while football and ‘other’ sports decreased.
Swiming recorded the highest figures across the time period. It accounted for 39% in 1990, 48% in 2000, and 41% in 2010. ‘Other’ sports’ figures decreased in the time periode. It accounted for 25% in the year 1990, then fell to 23% in 2000 before recording its last share at 19% in the final year. Furthermore, football started at 16% in 1990. It then rose to 18% in the year 2000, but quickly fell to 8% in 2010.
Regarding tennis, its figures stayed identical in 1990 and 2000, at 4%. It then experianced a slight increase in the final year to reach 7%. Turning to basketball, its proportions fell from 16% in 1990 to 7% in 2000, before rising to its final figure of 25%.
