The three pie charts illustrate the age distribution on three different social media platforms: Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter in Australia in 2011.
Overall, 18 to 34 age group and 35 to 49 age group were the two main categories of the users among three social media platforms, while over 65 age group remained the least common users. In addition, the social media age distribution on Facebook and Youtube were mostly similar, whereas the figure for Twitter showed some significant differences.
On Facebook and Youtube, most of the users were from the 18 to 34 age bracket, accounting for 29 to 30 percent. It was closely followed by the 35 to 49 age group, with 28 percent for Facebook and 26 percent for YouTube. In contrast, Twitter was attributed mostly by the users aged from 35 to 49, accounting for 40 percent of the total. The share of people aged 18 to 34 using Twitter was 18 percent, similar to that of Facebook.
The 50 to 64 age bracket distributed 15 percent to the users on Youtube and 14 percent to the users on Facebook, but it only distributed 9 percent to that figure for Twitter. The over 65 age group remained the least common users among three different social media platforms: Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter, with 10%, 9% and 4% respectively
