The pie charts compare the proportion of four online purchases categories in New Zealand over the two years: 2003 and 2013
In general, the share of money spent on books as well as film and music witnessed upward trends over the period of 10 years. In contrast, there were noticeable decreases in online sales for both travel and fashion items. It is clear that New Zealand citizens purchased the most on travel, accounting for 36% in 2003, which was nearly a double of the books sold. Simultaneously, approximately a quarter of online sales came from clothes, followed by film and music at 21%.
After a decade, the percentage of travel sales declined considerably to 29%. Clothing items, likewise, dropped by 6% in 2013. Meanwhile, film and music spending saw significant growth, reaching 33%. At the same time, books contributed 22% to the total networked purchases in New Zealand, a rise of 3% compared to 2003.
