The two pie charts show how online shopping sales were divided among four retail sectors in New Zealand in 2003 and 2013.
Overall, there were several noticeable changes in the distribution of online sales across these sectors over the ten-year period. Specifically, the travel and clothing sectors lost market share, while film/music and books experienced a rise in their respective shares.
In 2003, travel was the largest sector, accounting for about a third (36%) of total online sales. Clothes followed closely behind, making up around a quarter (24%) of the sales. Film and music represented nearly a fifth (21%), and books had a slightly smaller share, at approximately 19%.
By 2013, film and music had become the leading sector, with their share rising to about a third (33%). Travel’s share dropped to around 29%. Books saw a modest increase to 22%, while clothing experienced the largest decline, falling to just under one-fifth (16%).
