The pie charts present data on the total proportion of 5 different types of books sold by a bookseller at 2-decade intervals, from 1972 to 2012.
Overall, whereas the sales figures for Adult fiction and children’s fiction experienced a rise, the reverse had been registered in the rest of the types of books(other, Travel, and Biography) over the study period.
A closer examination of the data from 1972 shows that the figures for sales of Adult fiction accounted for 20%-the figures which was also true for Children’s fiction and Biography at this time. It is pertinent to note that by far the biggest share of sales was registered in Others at a percentage point of a quarter. Conversely, Travel had welcomed the smallest proportion of sales among all, accounting for just 15%.
Coming to the year 1992, Adult fiction witnessed a slight increase of 5%, from 20% to 25%. The sales of Children’s fiction, on the other hand, increased slightly to 22%, which was followed closely by others(20%). Whilst Travel witnessed a rise to amount to 18%, the reverse was true for Bibliography which was down by 5%. By contrast, the share of Adult fiction in sales amounted to almost half, which stood twice as much as that of Children’s fiction(25%) in 2012. Meanwhile, the percentage of Others, Travel, and Biography represented a combined total of 30%; Others-12%, Travel-10%, and Biography-8%.
