Overall, what stands out from the chart is that in 1985 people taking modern languages courses accounted for the largest proportion, while this year IT was the popular course. In contrast, Music appreciation represented the smallest category in 1985, while art recorded the smallest share this year.
Looking at the details of 1985, the largest proportion of students was recorded in modern languahes course, at 24%, followed by fitness and dance with 22%. The Art was 17%, which was almost two times higher than the proportion of music appreciation at 7%. Meanwhile, 14% of people who took cookery courses, which was almost same as the proportion of people who took local history lessons at 15%.
With respect to students this year, the number of courses has declined from 6 in 1985 to 5 this year.
IT courses, which were non-existent in 1985, accounted for the highest share of students at 27%. The second largest proportion recorded for fitness and dance at 22%, which has experienced no change from 1985. The figure for Art has accounted almost the same share as that for Modern languages, at 15% and 17% respectively. Both figures have declined, from 17% and 24% in 1985 to 15% and 17% this year, respectively. By contrast, the figure for cookery has increased from 14% in 1985 to 19% this year.
