The pie charts compare the types of courses chosen by students in an adult eduaction center from 1985 till now. Overall, although students preferring modern languages recorded the highest share initially, the popularity of the course has declined noticeably. A similar pattern was observed in art, whereas cookery’s participation level increased. Notably, local history and music appreciation, which attracted fewer students, have been removed from curriculum altogether, while newly introduced IT has gained significant popularity to become dominant. Lastly, the engagement rate in fitness and dance has remained the throughout.
In 1985, modern languages was the most popular course, accounting for almost a quarter of enrolments(24%), closely followed by fitness and dance at 22%. Art and local history attracted 17% and 15% of students respectively, while cookery made up 14%. Music appreciation was least popular subject by far, at just 8%.
Since then,there have been significant shifts in students’ preferences,with IT by far the most popular option at a staggering 27%. Fitness and dance has retained its share at 22%. In contrast, modern languages has fallen sharply to 17%, and art has dropped slightly to 15%. Cookery has seen a modest rise to 19%, whereas local history and music appreciation no longer feature among the course options at all.
