The pie charts compare the proportion of volunteers in six types of organizations in 2008 and 2014.
Overall, there was a larger percentage of people volunteering for environmental, sport and healthcare organizations while the percentage of volunteers in art, educational and other sectors experienced a significant decline. Additionally, volunteers were the least involved in healthcare activities in both years.
In the year 2008, volunteers participating in educational organizations accounted for the highest percentage, at 24%.This was followed by 21% and 18% of volunteers in environmental and art categories respectively. Meanwhile, the figure for volunteers in sport organizations was equal to that for others, at 15%. At the bottom end was healthcare sector, with just 7% of participants.
After 6 years, environmental organizations saw a rise to 29% and became the most popular choice. There were much more volunteers working in sport activities, with a considerable growth of 10%, while the percentage of volunteers in educational organizations decreased to 17%. Besides, art and other organizations recorded a drop of 6% and despite a slight rise of 1%, healthcare activities remained the least preferred option.
