Overall, the majority of the world population resided in the Asian Pacific region in 2000. In addition, high school contributed the largest proportion of people’s spending on education.
Following the global population distribution, 54% of the world population lived in the Asian Pacific region, by far higher than the other regions. Next came Europe, Africa, Latin America & Caribbean, which accounted for 11%, 10% and 9%. Furthermore, 7% of the world population inhabited North America, while 6% of them lived in the Middle East and North Africa, leaving the rest of the world only 3%.
Regarding the spending on education, 33% of the total budget was spent on highschool. Meanwhile, primary school and secondary school had lower expenditures, each at 26%. Finally, university and further education only allocated a small portion of the total spending, at 8% and 7%.
