The pie charts illustrate the proportion of five sources used by residents of Germany and urban areas of Nigeria to obtain the news during average week. Overall, it can be seen that the way of receiving news by reading newspapers is the most popular in Germany, whereas watching TV is mostly preferred in Nigeria.
One of the most prominent features of this data is that, while in Nigeria about two thirds of people access the news by television, in Germany the figure is 30%, which is almost two times less than in Nigeria. It is also clear that approximately half of the Germans (45%) read newspapers to be up to date, while just slightly over a tenth of the Nigerian urban popularization (13%) get the news this way.
One major difference is that listening to the news on the radio is preferred by over twice people in Nigeria than in Germany. The figures are 22% and 10%, respectively. Similarly, just over a tenth of German residents selected the Internet as a source of obtaining information, whilst it’s one of the most insignificant figure in Nigeria, at only 1%.
In conclusion, it can be said that the high levels of newspaper use in Germany mean that other methods such as radio and television are used less in comparison with Nigeria.
