The pie graphs give information on the percentage of people travelling for different purposes—visiting friends/family, business, holiday, and others—from different airports (Gatwick Airport, Heathrow Airport, Luton Airport, and Stansted Airport) in the year 2016. It is clear that the proportion of passengers flying for visits to friends and family was the highest at all airports, with the exception of Gatwick Airport, where the figure for holiday was by far the highest, while the reverse is true for other reasons at all airports.
Looking at the graph in more detail, 50% of people traveled to visit friends/family from Luton Airport, compared to Stansted Airport, which accounted for the second highest percentage, at 48%. In comparison, the figure for visiting friends/family at Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport consisted of 37% and 30%, respectively. By contrast, the percentage of passengers flying for holiday reasons from Gatwick Airport and Stansted Airport made up 54% and 36%, respectively, while from Luton Airport and Heathrow Airport they were 35% and 33%, respectively.
However, the figure for business accounted for 26% at Heathrow Airport, whereas at other airports it made up 14%, except for Luton Airport, which consisted of 13%. In contrast, with the exception of Heathrow Airport, where it was 4%, each other airport accounted for 2%.
