Overall, Africa contains the largest share of global forest, whereas North America is the leading producer of timber. In contrast, Asia accounts for the smallest proportion of forest area, while Africa contributes the least to timber production.
In terms of world forest distribution, Africa represents the highest percentage at 27%, followed closely by North America with 25%. Europe accounts for 18% of the total forest area worldwide, while South America comprises 16%. Asia has the smallest share, at 14%.
Regarding timber production, North America dominates with 30%, despite not having the largest forest area. South America is the second-largest producer, contributing 23%, while Europe and Asia account for 20% and 18%, respectively. By contrast, Africa produces only 9% of the world’s timber, the lowest figure among the regions.
