The diagrams illustrate the changes in the layout of a library’s ground floor from 2001 to 2009.
Overall, the ground floor was significantly renovated, with an expanded variety of book genres and the addition of modern facilities.
In 2001, upon entering the ground floor of the library, visitors were welcomed with a librarian’s desk that directly faced the entrance. On the left-hand side, there were two areas dedicated to self-help and history while to the right of the entrance, in the corner, were stairs. Besides, there were a few tables arranged in the middle of the room, with newspapers and periodicals were situated on the right and fiction was located on top.
By 2009, there were no changes in the location of librarian’s desk and stairs. However, those bookshelves on the left-hand side were reorganized not only to remove but also to welcome the addition of new genres in terms of fiction, kitchen, economics, and law. The relocation of fiction created more spaces for tables and children’s areas. Meanwhile, newspapers and periodicals were altered by films and DVDs, including computers nearby. Lastly, tables in the middle of the room were transferred to four longer tables.
