The maps illustrate how the layout of the museum’s ground floor has changed over 20 years.
Overall, the ground floor retained most of its origins, but several areas changed their function. The area became more visitor oriented, withnew amenities such as a lift, a café and children’s interactive zone.
In 1990, upon entering the museum, on the left side there was a reception counter, behind which was a museum office. The gift was on the top left corner, and the natural history room was located between gift shop and museum office. Near the gift shop, there were a statue and the stairs. On right top corner, there was a large archeology gallery, below which was a local history room.
In 2010, the area saw big changes. The gift shop became larger and café was added there. The statue is now on the center of the ground floor. Below the gift shop, a lift was introduced, and a reception counter was relocated near the entrance. The entrance became a lot bigger than it used to be. And the archeology gallery was split in two ares, a children’s interactive zone and a poster display area. All the new and old amenities on right side were reconstructed with no wall in front.
