The pictures show the transformation of a two-storey traditional Japanese house into a modern one.
Overall, the house underwent a major extension with the addition of new visitor-friendly features while maintaining some of its facilities. The transformation included the introduction of a living and dining room, as well as two additional bedrooms. Significant changes were made upstairs.
In the traditional Japanese house, both the entrance and the bathroom are located downstairs. The stairs are located in the west, which is above the entrance, while the kitchen is situated in the east. At the top, there is Room 1, where a person sleeps by unfolding a futon. Upstairs, there are Rooms 2 and 3 constructed on the southeast side, adjacent to each other. This part also has stairs in the west.
In terms of the modern Japanese house, both the stairs and entrance have retained their location, whereas the bathroom has been demolished to make way for the kitchen, and a traditional room has been added next to the kitchen. Room 1 is gone, and in its place is the living and dining room. Rooms 2 and 3 are replaced by Bedrooms 2 and 3 upstairs. Instead of Room 3, there are two bathrooms on the east, side-by-side. A main bedroom has been included at the bottom right, next to the bathroom. Similarly, the stairs keep their location upstairs too.
