The two maps compare the layout of the museum’s ground floor in 1990 and 2010. In general, the ground floor underwent significant changes, with some features being removed and replace by new facilities, such as a children’s interactive zone and a poster display area.
In 1990, an entrance was located at the bottom centre, opposite stairs at the top centre. Along the right side from top to bottom were an archaeology gallery and a local history room, respectively. In addition, a natural history room occupied the left side, between a gift shop at the top-left corner and a museum office at the bottom-left corner. There was a statue, adjacent to the gift shop on the right-hand side, while a reception counter was positioned to the right of the museum office.
Moving on to the layout in 2010, the archaeology gallery was converted into the children’s interactive zone and the poster display area, with the latter situated below the former. The statue was relocated to the middle of the museum’s ground floor, whereas the reception counter, which previously lay parallel to the museum office, was reoriented diagonally and shifted slightly to the left. In addition, the gift shop was expanded and transformed into a café and gift shop, above a new lift. Lastly, the remaining sections remained unchanged.
