The given diagram compares the transformations that took place in the South Wing of Walton Museum in two different years, in 2008 and in 2012.
From an overall perspective, it is clear that the museum underwent considerable alterations, offering new amenities for visitors. Of particular note are terrace and entrance hall, which were constructed at the expense of entrance.
Starting with previous layout of this area, the museum floor began with a path, opposite the entrance which was featured left-hand side of reception. Interestingly, stairs were occupied by shop and cloak room, whereas, the north side of cloak room was a reading room.
With regard to noteworthy changes, entrance was removed to make space for a terrace and entrance hall, while stairs were replaced with a lift. However, cloak room was made in the same spot with reception in order to clear room for children’s play area that the 3rd and 4th floor were converted into self-service café and exhibition room, respectively. Restaurant was newly constructed new on the top of the reception and cloak room. Regardless of conspicuous alterations, the gallery, shop and reading were retained on their initial form.
