Two diagrams compare the differences between the layout of the South Wing of Walton Museum in 2008 and its redevelopment in 2012.
It is clear that the principal change to the Walton Museum was the construction of several new facilities such as a restaurant, exhibition room, and so on. In addition, various others were relocated or restructured that offer convenience for children and customers.
The first building on the left of Walton Museum, the special exhibition room remained unchanged while the entrance on the second floor was developed to the entrance hall. The third floor witnessed the emergence of a new terrace. In the center of Walton Museum, the building also saw a number of changes, with the consolidation of a reception and a cloaks room on the second floor, and the addition of a restaurant on the third one. However, no change was made to the shop on the first floor catering for visitors when they go to the museum.
On the right side of the floor plan, the staircase was converted into a lift, which vertically connected four new facilities: an exhibition space, a self-service area, the exhibition room, and a children’s play zone. This expansion of the South Wing aimed to create a more efficient and visitor-friendly layout.
