The diagram illustrates on the steps involved in forming modern landfill for household waste.
Overall, the process consists of three main stages, commencing with construction, continuing with waste deposition, and culminating with waste management.
The preparatory stage begins with excavating a rectangular pit in natural rock, followed by lining the pit with a thick layer of clay and a synthetic liner in order to strengthen the structure of the pit to ensure its stability. In addition, a drainage tank is first dug, and drainage pipes are then installed at the bottom of the pit.
The next steps starts with landfill is filled with waste by trunks, after which liquid is excessed to drains in to the tank, which prevents soil contamination and make solid waste is easy to decompose. After that, a gas vent is added to help gas from deposing waste release, and waste is blended with the natural stone. Moreover, the landfill is sealed with another layer of clay above the pit that leads to waste is deposed more easily and avoid smells from waste.
