The table and chart illustrate the time spent – in minutes – on leisure and house hold activities among men and women in 2008.
Overall, while both men and women demonstrated almost same figures in leisure activities, they spent different amount of time in household activities. Men engage in mostly in leisure activities, particularly in TV/video/radio. Meanwhile, women more active in household activities with an exception of repairing.
The table shows that men found watching TV, video or listening to radio as the most interesting activity by spending 137 minutes. Similarly, the highest expenditure on recreational activities amongst women was that category too. In followed far behind that category, both men and women dedicated their minority of time to other 2 pursuits, reading and sport, with slight differences (18, 15 minutes for men and 19, 11 minutes for women).
When it comes to chart, it can be seen clearly that women devoted more time in doing chores compared to men. Cooking and washing dishes, which was the highest figure among both men and women, took the longest minutes, occupying nearly 30 minutes by men and more than 70 minutes by women. The second most time-consuming household activity was shopping, with men spending around 24 minutes and women about 36 minutes. Next chore was clothes washing and ironing. As always, men less active in this activity, performing approximately 11 minutes, whereas women spent much more time in that activity too, with half an hour. Last activity was repairing in which men dedicated more minutes than women, reaching to nearly 20 minutes, and women spent less than the doubled time recorded for men with only 10 minutes, making it the least household activity among others.
