The table and graph compare international tourist numbers and tourism revenue in Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, and Japan over the period shown.
It is clear that both tourist numbers and tourism revenue increased steadily between 2000 and 2014. Thailand was by far the most popular country, attracting the highest number of visitors and generating the greatest revenue.
In 2000, Thailand ranked first with 9.5 million foreign visitors, while Japan recorded the lowest figure at 4.8 million. Singapore and South Korea had 7.7 million and 5.3 million tourists respectively. Tourist numbers rose significantly in all four countries over the period, although South Korea experienced a slight dip between 2000 and 2005 before continuing to increase, reaching 24.8 million in Thailand, 15.1 million in Singapore, 14.2 million in South Korea, and 13.4 million in Japan.
In the line graph, tourism revenue was highest in Singapore at about $10 billion in 2000, while Japan recorded the lowest. Thailand then saw a sharp rise to over $25 billion. The other three countries also experienced noticeable growth, increasing to about $23 billion in Singapore, around $20 billion in Japan and approximately $15 billion in South Korea by 2014.
