The table gives information about the consumption of water for three different sectors in six countries in the year 2003.
Overall, it can be easily noticed from the table that the water usage is highest in the domestic field in most countries, while the least amount of water is consumed for the industrial sector, particularly in China and the UK.
Looking first at the water expenditure for the domestic sector, Australia had the highest usage with 65%, closely followed by Canada which stood at 63%. On the contrary, the UK and China witnessed the lowest amount with proportions that were not too different, at 5% and 6%, respectively. India, which stood at 19%, had a significant difference with Japan by 9% on domestic consumption. For the industry, Canada again had the highest percentage at 32% while Australia had the least figures at only 2% in 2003.
In terms of agricultural water requirements, the percentage of India was double that in Australia, starting at 33%. Water expenditure in Canada contributed to the lowest proportion with only 5%. In contrast, the UK dominated with a proportion at 90%, closely followed by China at 87% and Japan at 82%, respectively.
