The table shows information about underground railway systems in six different city : London, Paris, Tokyo, Washington DC, Kyoto, and Los Angeles. It includes the year of the railway system was opened, the length of the route in kilometers, and how many passengers use them in a year.
The underground railway in every city have been opened in different year. London was the oldest underground system, which was opened in 1863. It had 394 kilometers of route, which was the longest route over six city. In 1900, Paris opened the underground railway systems and has 199 kilometers of railway. After 27 years, in 1927, Tokyo started underground railway system. It only has 155 kilometers of route. Furthermore, Tokyo has the most used system, leading with 1927 millions passengers per year. It shows that Tokyo is the busiest underground railway.
Washington DC opened in 1976 with 126 kilometers of route and 144 million passengers. Kyoto and Los Angeles have newer systems. Kyoto opened in 1981 whilst Los Angeles opened in 2001. Nevertheless, Kyoto and Los Angeles have the smallest systems. Los Angeles has 28 kilometers with 50 millions passengers per year, whilst Kyoto has only 11 kilometers with 45 millions passengers. Even though Tokyo and Kyoto in the same country, hence, most people in Tokyo prefer using underground railway than in Kyoto.
