Looking from an overall perspective, the number of students saw an increase over the period, also females showed greater interested in studying compared to males. Notably, there was a significant grow in the number of students of countries to enroll, pupils from Manchester recorded the least interest in studying during the same period.
To begin with, in 1937, 327 students just enrolled at the university. This number rose rapidly to 1133 students in 1967 and further increased to 6254 students by the end of period. The proportion of females who enrolled initially stood at 45%, whereas that of for males was higher at 55%. However, by 2017, females and males enrollments were at 55% and 45%, respectively.
Regarding their origin, in 1937, 55% of students that enrolled came from within 40 miles of Manchester, followed by 15% and almost 1% by 2017, indicating a decreasing appeal for local students to study over time. In contrast, initially the percentage of pupils from abroad countries was 6%, climbing significantly to 32% from 102 countries in 2017.
