The table illustrates the percentage of tax collected as a proportion of GDP in five different countries from 1975 to 2005.
Overall, Sweden collected the highest amount of tax throughout the period, while the USA has remained stable. In contrast, other three countries, namely, Korea, Japan and Turkey had much lower persentage, but it increased over the period.
In 1975, the number of tax in Sweden was 46% which is far higher than all other countries. This number increased to 47% in 1985 and to 51% by next decade. At the end of the given period, Sweden reached its peak at 70%. While the amount of tax in the USA was relatively stable, which started with 25%, This number remained steady, before it rose sharply to 27.4% by 2005.
Korea showed a significant growth starting with 15% and increased to 27%. Altough this figure experienced a slight decline in 1995, it recovered again to 27.3%. Japan showed an upward trend from 15% in 1975, following 16% and 23% in 1985 and 1995 respectively. In 2005, this number rose significantly to 32.1%. In terms of Turkey, its persentage of tax was 16.4 at the beginnind and faced some fluctuations. By 1985, its number decreased to 15%. before increasing sharply to 24% in 1995 and to 27.4% by the enf of the given period.
