The table illustrates the amount of the average miles used by adults for each means of transport annually in two years 1997 and 2007.
It can be seen that there were seven modes of transport namely walking, bike, car, motorbike, bus, train and taxi while the figure for cars had the highest number in both two years. In addition, the amount of miles which was traveled by car, train and taxi witnessed an increase with the figure for taxi experiencing the most significant increase while the opposite was true for walking, bicycle, motorbike, and bus.
In 1997, the amount of miles traveled by car was the highest, at 3500 miles before increasing sharply to 7100 miles in 2007. The similar change can be seen in the figure for taxi which rose four times from 200 miles to 800 miles while there was a slight increase by 100 miles in the annual distance for train.
The figure for both bike and motorbike started at 100 miles in 1997 then there was a moderate decrease to 80 miles and 90 miles respectively over the next ten years. Annually, the bus and walking used to travel 800 miles and 400 miles respectively,, followed by a gradual fall by 300 miles and 100 miles in 2007.
