The table compares the population size, growth rate, density, land area, and urban population percentage in China, India, and the USA in 2021.
Overall, China had the largest population, while India showed the fastest growth and highest population density. In contrast, the USA had the smallest population but the largest share of people living in urban areas.
China and India had similar populations, with China leading slightly at 1.415 billion compared to India’s 1.354 billion. However, India’s population grew at a significantly faster rate of 1.11%, compared to China’s slower increase of 0.39%. In terms of density, India had 455 people per square kilometre, which was far higher than China’s 151.
In contrast, the USA’s population was much smaller at 327 million, but its growth rate of 0.71% was still higher than China’s. Despite having the largest land area after China (9.147 million square kilometres), the USA had the lowest population density at 36 people per square kilometre. Interestingly, the USA had the highest proportion of urban residents at 83%, compared to 58% in China and just 32% in India.
