The table compares information about different means of transport on average kilometers traveled by a European adult in a capital city from 1977 and 2007. Overall, it is clear that car, taxi, and train usage increased while traveling by walk, bus and motorcycle saw a decrease over the given period. Additionally, the car was the most popular use of transport in both years
In 1977, commuting by car topped the list with 3,500 km closely followed by the train, at 900 km. This was followed by a sharp rise with their respective figures for 7,100 km and 1,000 km in 2007. Similarly, distance covered by taxi rose to double its original amount from 400 km to 800 km.
Turning to the decreases, the rest of the transportation was observed a slight decline. The figure for bus stood at 500 km in 1977, after which it experienced a negligible decline to 400 km in 2007. Likewise, starting at 400 km, traveling on foot saw a decrease to 300 km. The bicycle and motorcycle observed the same numbers in both years with a slight decreas from 100 km to 90 km each
