The table illustrates the proportion of consumer expenditure on three types of items in five various countries in 2002.
Overall, all countries’ people have spent the most on food, drinks and tobacco, whereas they spent the least amount of money on leisure and education. Interestingly, Turkey was a leader on spending on all categories except clothing and footwear, where Italy ranked at top.
Turning to details, we can see that on food, drinks and tobacco category, Turkey and Ireland accounted for the most with 32.14% and 28.91% respectively, followed by Spain at 18.80%, Italy at 16.36% and Sweden at 15.77%.On the other hand, the percentage of clothing and footwear expenditures was changing between 5% and 7% for all countries, except Italy where this type of spending accounted for 9%.Lastly, leisure and education was the least popular spending in all countries. Moreover, the percentage of consumer expenditure of by this category was between the interval from 1.5% to 5% and averaged around 3%.
