The table illustrates the percentage of individuals’ expenditures on three different categories merchandise in five nations in 2002. Overall, the proportions of consumers’ spending on food, drink, and tobacco were the highest in five countries, while the lowest was seen in leisure and education followed by clothing, footwear, and leisure, education, respectively. Additionally, the outlay of people in Turkey was the highest compared to the other four countries.
Concerning food, drink, and tobacco, the percentage of Turkey’s spending on these items was the highest, at just less than one-third. The next highest proportions were the outlay in Ireland, and Spain, at 28,91%, and 18,8%, respectively. The percentage of citizens’ expenditures in Italy was 16,36%, which was slightly higher than that in Sweden, at 15,77%.In contrast, leisure and education accounted for the lowest proportion in all five countries. The percentage of Turkey’s expenditure was the highest, which was three times higher than the lowest proportion, comprising 1,98%.
Regarding clothing and footwear, Italians had higher spending on these items than the other four countries, at 9%. The rate of expenditures on clothing and footwear in Turkey ranked 2nd in the list, constituting 6,63%, followed by Spain, Ireland, and Sweden, at 6,51%, 6,43%, and 5,4%, respectively.
