The table presents the data on the expenditure by consumers on various goods and services in Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey in 2002. The information is presented in terms of average spending as a percentage of national consumer.
Overall, it is clear that the most popular items to spend on in all five countries were food and beverages and tobacco. The least amount of outlay was observed on leisure and education in the aforementioned countries.
To begin with, consumer expenses on Food and drinks /Tobacco ranging from 15,77% in Sweden to 32,14% in Turkey, indicates that Turkey had the highest and Sweden had the lowest position in that category, meanwhile the second,third and forth places were occupied by Ireland,Spain and Italy which contributed 28,91%, 18,80% and 16,36%, respectively.
In addition, it is notable that the percentage of expending by Irish were 6,43% in Clothing/Footwear compared to 2,21% in Leisure/Education. Followed by this, Italian, Spanish, Swedes and Turkish spent 9,00%, 6,51%, 5,40%, 6,63%, respectively, whereas the ratio in latter category were 3,20%, 1,98%, 3,22% and 4,35%, accordingly.
