The table illustrates the percentage of national consumer expenditure for three categories of products and services in five countries in 2002.
Overall, consumer expenditure on food, drinks and tobacco accounted for the largest share. Meanwhile, the leisure and education category had the lowest percentage in the table.
Out of five countries, the figure for spending on food, drinks and tobacco was noticeably higher in Turkey at 31.14%, followed by Ireland at approximately 28.91%. The highest spending on clothing and footwear was recorded in Italy, at 9%. Furthermore, Turkey had the highest proportion of spending on leisure and education with 4.35%.
On the other hand, Sweden allocated the lowest proportion of expenditure to food, drinks and tobacco at just 15.77%, and also recorded the smallest share for clothing and footwear, at 5.40%. Additionally, Spain recorded moderate spending in the other categories, but in leisure and education, Spain reached the lowest proportion at approximately 2%.
