The given table compares household expenditures of different item categories in five countries including Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Finland and Turkey in the year 2004.
Overall, Food, Drinks, Tobacco represented the largest category of spending in all five nations, while Leisure and Education accounted the least share of spending. Moreover, it is clear Turkey has the highest spending in Food, Drinks and Tobacco and Leisure and Education, while Italy’s expenditure was the highest in Clothing, Footwear and Home Accessories.
Regarding Food, Drinks and Tobacco, it is evident that Turkey has the highest expenditure in this category at 32.10%, followed by Ireland at 28.90%. Conversely, Finland recorded its spending at around 15.80%, whose figure is the smallest amongst the five nations. Moreover, Portugal and Italy occupied the middle ground, with figures of 18.00% and 16.36% respectively.
Turning to Clothing, Footwear and Home Accessories, Italy presented the highest proportion in spending at 9%, while Finland’s figure was surveyed around 5.40%. In the middle ground, both Portugal and Turkey recorded 6.60% of total household spending on clothing, footwear and home accessories, initiating a 0.2% to Ireland.
Regarding Leisure and Education, Turkey again showed the highest spending at 4.4%, while Ireland recorded the lowest figure in the table for this category, at just 2.2%. Additionally, both Finland and Italy allocated their spending for Leisure and Education at around 3.20%, whereas Portugal only accounted at around 2.5%
